Everybody begin to cheer and yell. Then a light fall on a side of the stage an there she is— Jenny herself! She has changed from the way Forrest known her. First, she is got hair down to her back, and is wearing sunglasses inside, at night! She is dressed in blue jeans an a shirt with so many spangles on it she look like a telephone switchboard. The band start up again and Jenny begun to sing. She has grapped hole of the microphone and is dancing all aroun the stage, jumping up and down and waving her arms and tossing her hair around. Forrest was trying to understand the words to the song, but the band is playing too loud for that, beating on the drums, banging on the piano, swatting them electric guitars till it seem like the roof gonna cave in. He was thinking, what the hell is this?

After a while they take a break and so Forrest got up and tried to get through a door that go backstage. But there is a feller standing there who say he cannot come in.Anyway, after a wile, he got bored and went down a alley and round to the back of the club. There was some little steps and he sat down there and watched the rats chasing each other in the garbage. Forrest had his harmonica in his pocket, so’s to pass the time, he got it out and started to play a little. He could till hear the music from Jenny’s band, and after a while he found himself being able to play along with them, sort of using the chromatic stop to get half out of key so it would fit in with what there was playing.

One day the delegation was taken to out of town to a big river and there they found Chairman Mao. In the river Chairman Mao wave three times to the people when he was swimming. But suddenly he is drowning. Forrest dived down three or four times and haul Chairman Mao up and some Chinamen graped him and throwed him in the boat and took off. When Forrest come back, Mister Wilkins come up to him and said:”You big dumb goof, Do you not realize that the best thing that could of happpened for the United States was let him drown!” Her received a report that the Chinese envoy would like to start discussions about the possibility of reopening foreign relations with U.S.A.

Chinese people helt the parade two days later, an it were a sight to see. There was bout a billion people along the streets. The thing was posed to wind up at the Kumingtang, which is like the capitol of China, an Forrest was sposed to get thanked by Chairman Mao personally. In the middle of the lunch, Chairman Mao lean over to Forrest and say, “I have heard you was in Vietnam. May I ask what you think of the war?” An nterpreter translate that for Forrest, and he think about it for a moment or two, but then I figger, and so he say, “I think it’s a bunch of shit.”The interpreter translate that back to him, an Chairman Mao get a odd expression on his face, an look at Forrest funny.

When they get on the plane to Washington they is a bunch of civilian on it too. Forrest was excited. He can see the Washington Monument and the Capitol. After they get squared away in their rooms, Colonel Gooch came over and said “we should go out for a drink to this little bar he remembers.”

Next morning they get up bright and early and walk on over to the White House where the President live. The president is a great big guy who talk like he is from Texas. Then the President come up to Forrest and take the medal out of a box and pin it on his chest.

That afternoon back at our hotel, Colonel Gooch suddenly come busting into Forrest ‘s room with a handful of newspapers. The title of one article’s photo is “President Johnson and War Hero Relaxing in the Rose Garden”. Forrest and Colonel Gooch was on the photo.

Dan comes from the state of Connecticut, and he was a teacher of history. After about a week or so, they move Forrest to another part of the hospital, but every day I gone back to set for a while with Dan. There is a little market down by the waterfront where folks sell fish and shrimp and stuff. And one day Forrest went down there and bought some shrimp and one of the cooks at the hospital boil them for him and they sure were good. He wished Dan could eat some. But he cannot.

Couple of days later he gone on back to the fish market and there is a little guy selling a big bag of shrimp there. Forrest asked him where he got the shrimp. But he does not understand English. Forrest used sign language like a Indian or something, and after a while he catch on. After a mile or so, Forrest got there.

One day, when Forrest went back to hospital, he received Dan’s letter:

Dear Forrest,

I am sorry there was no time for us to see each other before I left. The doctors made their decision quickly, and before I knew it, I was being taken away, but I asked if I could stop long enough to write you this note, because you have been so kind to me while I was here.

I sense, Forrest, that you are on the verge of something very significant in your life, some change, or event that will move you in a different direction, and you must seize the moment, and not let it pass. When I think back on it now, there is something in your eyes, some tiny flash of fire that comes now and then, mostly when you smile, and, on those infrequent occasions, I believe what I saw was almost a Genesis of our ability as humans to think, to create, to be.

This war is not for you, old pal— nor me— and I am well out of it as I’m sure you will be in time. The crucial question is, what will you do? I don’t think you’re an idiot at all. Perhaps by the measure of tests or the judgment of fools, you might fall into some category or other, but deep down, Forrest, I have seen that glowing sparkle of curiosity burning deep in your mind. Take the tide, my friend, and as you are carried along, make it work for you, fight the shallows and the snags and never give in, never give up. You are a good fellow, Forrest, and you have a big heart.

In the Fort Benning, they taught Forrest how to shoot guns and throw hand grenades. One day, he go to the kitchen, and someone point Forrest and say:’’ Gump, you is going to be the cook today.”

This paragraph is so interesting:

“What I’m going to cook” “ I am not never cooked before.”

“Who cares,” somebody say. “This aren’t the Sans Souci, y’know”

“Why don’t you make a stew?” somebody else say.”It is easier.”

“What of?”

“Look in the icebox and the pantry,” the feller says.”Just throw in everything you see and boil it up.”

“What if it doesn’t taste good?” I asked.

“Who gives a shit. You ever eat anything around here that did?”

In this, he is correct.

The feller says:” Just throw in everything you see and boil it up.” He opens all the cans and peeled all the potatoes and throws in whatever meat he could find and onions and carrots and poured in ten or twenty bottles of ketchup and mustard and all.

You cannot imagine what he used to cook, the boiler. Forrest does not exactly sure what happened next. He just remembers that the boiler blows the roof off the mess hall.

Then he goes to the Vietnam in Feb. In Vietnam he meets Bubba. Briefly, what had happen was that even if Bubba’s foot was hurt too bad to play football, it were not bad enough to join the U.S Army. He told about Jenny Curran done quit school and gone off with a bunch of protesters.

Later on, Sergeant Kranz come over and asked him be the machine gunner since Doyle is hurt and Bones is killed. He asked who will carry the ammo. Bubba says he will if he can transferred to his company. Sergeant kranz think one moment and he said it can be arranged.

Like in the movie, Bubba has got a plan for them after serving for the army. They want to work on shrimp boats all his life. They can get a loan and buy a ship, live in the ship. Get many pounds of shrimp for sell.

However, in a battle, Bubba was killed. The last word he said is going home. Forrest’s ass was hit. He cried, cause Bubba – the only friend he ever had has gone, shrimp boat also has gone. And Forrest is going home.

He feels so bad, because he cannot play football anymore, and cannot see Jenny any more. He cannot say anything, tears begins coming to his eyes. Then Coach put his arm around him. “Forrest, ” he said:” there has never been nobody like you ever played ball at this school, and there won’t be never again. You were very fine.” And there is little tears in Coach’s eyes.

He had to leave the University. Bubba walk with me outside the Ape Dorm, and someone should be standing there but the entire football team. He walks on home.

His mother told him should report to U.S. Army Induction Center. His mother takes him to there a few days later.

It make him feel so good.In Friday, Forrest goes on over to the Student Union building. Jenny is wearing a long dress and playing the guitar, and somebody else has a banjo and there is a guy with a fiddle.Jenny sees him in the crowd,and smiles and points with her eyes for him. They had played for an hour and evebody seems very happy. Forrest had pulls out his harmonica and playing along with them. It is the strangest thing, Jenny is singing “Blowing in the wind” and when he begins to play, she stops for a second, and the banjo player, he stops too, and they get this very suprised looks on their faces, and then Jenny give a big grin and she commence to pick up the song again, and the banjo player, he stop and give Forrest a chance to ride his harmonics for a while,and everybody in the crowd begun to clap and cheer when he was done. Jenny come down from the stage after that and the band take a break and she says,” Forrest, what in the world? Where you learn to play that thing?” Forrest feels he in the heaven till he found out Jenny Curran been screw in the banjo player.

Unifortunately, it was not going good in his English class, “The Romantic period”, he say,”did not follow a bunch of classic bullshit”. Mister Boon don’t understand Forrest is a idiot.

One Night, he sees Jenny and the Banjo player doing something in the car, then he graps the banjo player by his shirt, which is all he’s got on anyhow, and snatchs his ass off her. Jenny gets angry, says”Oh Forrest- How could you” and walks off. He told this to Bubba, Bubba says:”People was making love.”

It is so hot when they have football practice. Forrest always feel the Coatch Bryant watching on him.From the time I’m little, evey time Forrest do something wrong, his mum always says:”Forrest, you got to be careful, cause the goona put you away.”

Curtis(Forrest’s Roomate) do not getting along with Forrest so well, so he fell lonely. So he moves to the basement of Ape Dorm. He did a good job in Intermediate Light, he can figure out the problem quickly. His English teacher also likes him.

In the first football, the Coach Bryant told him to just get the ball and run. He runs good and score four touchdowns.One day, he  meets Jenny Curran, she has forgiven him and invite him to have a cocola.
